Marketing plots – learning from the stories about the stories
Brand narratives don’t
exist in a vacuum, they exist in the marketplace together with other stories. The
dialectic interaction among different stories influences the stories told
and the way audiences perceive the marketplace. Recognising the resulting
marketing plots can be used to glean insights and inform brand strategy. Uri
Baruchin introduces this useful concept.

The road ahead
Thanks to tectonic
movement in the markets, the year ahead will likely see a tightening of belts
and a shift from market expansion and awareness building, to increasing
customer loyalty and return on investment. Whilst developing markets are likely
to continue to rocket ahead, mature markets will respond by rationalising brand
portfolios, questioning the effectiveness of communications, demanding more
innovation from their brands and taking on more change programmes. Brandinstinct
